Digital Literacy and Citizenship: Implementing a Whole School Curriculum
Presenters: Emily Hunt, Common Sense Media and Chris Beckwith, Reeds Brook Middle School
Learn practical strategies for educating your students and their adult mentors about digital literacy and citizenship using Common Sense Media’s free, web-based curriculum and framework.

This training will train participants on how to implement Common Sense Media’s new, free Digital Citizenship curriculum that is designed to help kids and their adult mentors define a road map for navigating the 24/7 media world safely and responsibly. The curriculum launches online in June, and gives schools resources to educate about digital citizenship in the classroom and in the community. Participants will receive program materials on a CD/DVD, and will have the opportunity to practice a few of the curriculum lesson plans, which will deepen learning about the issue, as well as enhance preparation to implement the curriculum in participants' communities. Chris Beckwith will offer best practices for addressing these issues with parent communities based on his experience using the Common Sense parent involvement program resources.
